Decanato - Facoltà di scienze informatiche

Data d'inizio: 16 Dicembre 2013

Data di fine: 17 Dicembre 2013

The Faculty of Informatics is pleased to announce a seminar given by Mark Carman

DATE: Monday, December 16th, 2013
PLACE: USI Lugano Campus, room SI-004, Informatics building (Via G. Buffi 13)
TIME: 15.30

ABSTRACT:
In this talk I will discuss a range of ongoing efforts to better understand burstiness (term re-occurrence) in text and what it means for information retrieval, to characterize the shape of trends observed in Twitter, to speed up forensic analysis through index-free search and to develop scalable classification and learning-to-rank algorithms.

BIO:

He received his PhD from the University of Trento in 2006, after studying at the Fondazione Bruno Kessler and the Information Sciences Institute of USC. Mark works primarily in information retrieval, applying statistical machine learning techniques to the modelling of users and user-generated content. He has served on the program committees of SIGIR, ECIR, AAAI-AIW and ICWSM and reviewed for TKDE and IP&M.
