Towards Pervasive and Energy-Efficient Positioning for Mobile Devices

Decanato - Facoltà di scienze informatiche

Data d'inizio: 18 Novembre 2011

Data di fine: 19 Novembre 2011

The Faculty of Informatics is pleased to announce a seminar given by Mikkel Baun Kjærgaard

DATE: Friday, November 18th, 2011
PLACE: USI Università della Svizzera italiana, room A33, Red building (Via G. Buffi 13)
TIME: 10.30

ABSTRACT:
Envisioned applications within domains, such as indoor navigation, fire-fighting and precision agriculture still pose challenges for existing positioning solutions. The challenges call for research on positioning anytime, anywhere and for anything, and energy-efficient tracking of targets. In this talk we will analyze the barriers for applying current GNSS technology indoors and how to sense the impairments on mobile devices. Then we will talk about energy-efficient tracking for mobile devices.

BIO:
Mikkel Baun Kjærgaard is a post-doc at the Wearable Computer Laboratory, ETH Zürich. His research interests are within the area of pervasive positioning-positioning anywhere, anytime, and of anything. his interests span from innovative applications within this area to technical challenges such as energy efficiency. he holds a PhD in computer science from Aarhus university, based on research on indoor positioning using radio location fingerprinting.
