Separating relevance model from a mixture distribution for context-sensitive information retrieval

Decanato - Facoltà di scienze informatiche

Data d'inizio: 8 Marzo 2010

Data di fine: 9 Marzo 2010

The Faculty of Informatics is pleased to announce a seminar given by Dawei Song

DATE: Monday, March 8th, 2010
PLACE: USI Università della Svizzera italiana, room SI-006, Informatics building (Via G. Buffi 13)
TIME: 15.30

ABSTRACT:
In this talk, I will introduce the newly established Information Retrieval group at the Robert Gordon University and our major research areas and projects. I will then focus on a piece of recent work about separating the relevance and irrelevance models from a mixture model in pseudo-relevance feedback, given some seed irrelevance information.

BIO:
Dawei Song joined The Robert Gordon University in November 2008 as a Professor of Computing. He "re-established" and leads the RGU information retrieval group, which now has 9 researchers. Prior to this appointment, he worked as a Senior Lecturer at the Knowledge Media Institute of The Open University, UK, during 9/2005-10/2008, and as a Research Scientist and Senior Research Scientist at the Distributed Systems Technology Centre, Australia, during 9/2000-7/2005. His main research interests include various theoretical and practical aspects of information retrieval, with special focus on deriving and incorporating statistical and syntactical dependencies in context-sensitive information retrieval. He is also interested in knowledge discovery from unstructured text and multimedia repositories.
