ParaView and the data flow visualization paradigm

Decanato - Facoltà di scienze informatiche

Data d'inizio: 20 Ottobre 2009

Data di fine: 21 Ottobre 2009

The Faculty of Informatics is pleased to announce a seminar given by Jean Favre

DATE: Tuesday, October 20th, 2009
PLACE: USI Università della Svizzera italiana, room SI-006, Informatics building (Via G. Buffi 13)
TIME: 15.30

ABSTRACT:
We will introduce data-flow visualization concepts, data types and the most common visualization techniques used in engineering and simulations. The ParaView software will be presented, with the aim of offering a complete visualization package for quantitative and qualitative data analysis, including the support of parallelism, from file I/O, to filtering and rendering.

BIO:
Jean M. Favre joined the Swiss Center for Scientific Computing in 1995. He is staff member in the Scientific Computing Research group and lead for the Data Analysis and Visualization activities. His interests in graphics and visualization started in 1987, when he joined Tektronix Computer Graphics Research Labs. Jean M. Favre received his Doctor of Science degree in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at the George Washington University in Washington DC where he was awarded the Presidential Merit Fellowship in 1989-92.

Dr. Favre manages many visualization R&D projects in academia and industry, with special interests in parallel and large-scale visualizations, object-oriented software developments and modular visualization environments. Mr. Favre has contributed to the graphics community with paper reviews for the IEEE CG&A, the IEEE TVCG and the IEE CSE, and tutorials at SIGGRAPH and IEEE Vis conferences.
