Data d'inizio: 11 Dicembre 2009

Data di fine: 12 Dicembre 2009

The Faculty of Informatics is pleased to announce a seminar given by Stefano Soi

DATE: Friday, December 11th, 2009
PLACE: USI Università della Svizzera italiana, room SI-006, Informatics building (Via G. Buffi 13)
TIME: 14.30

This talk concentrates on the problem of "universal integration" for the Web, that is, the integration of data, application logic and user interface (UI) components by means of unified and homogenous models and tools that go beyond the state of the art in so-called lightweight composition and mashup tools. The talk specifically provides insights into the experiences and lessons learned in the context of two innovative research projects currently being carried out at the University of Trento, Italy: First, the mashArt project, which aims at the development of a complete, hosted composition platform targeted at skilled web users or domain experts. mashArt is characterized by an intuitive, visual development environment and a corresponding lightweight run-time engine, both available as hosted services. Second, a project that instead aims at the development of a BPEL-based web services and UI composition platform targeted at developers. The idea is to allow developers to leverage advanced BPEL features in universal compositions, such as fault handling or transactions, which are a must in enterprise scenarios, and to enable the fast development of so-called multi-browser applications.

Stefano Soi is a PhD candidate in Information and Communication Technology at the University of Trento, Italy. Stefano has a bachelor in Computer Science from the University of Cagliari and a master in Computer Science from the University of Trento, specialization "Networks and distributed systems". He defended a master thesis entitled "Enabling Universal Integration in mashArt: componentizing services and user interfaces" and graduated with full marks cum laude. His research interests include Web technologies, mashups and lightweight composition on the Web.
