Robust methods for shape analysis

Decanato - Facoltà di scienze informatiche

Data d'inizio: 17 Ottobre 2012

Data di fine: 18 Ottobre 2012

The Faculty of Informatics is pleased to announce a seminar given by Andrea Giachetti

DATE: Wednesday, October 17th, 2012
PLACE: USI Università della Svizzera italiana, room SI 015, Informatics building (Via G. Buffi 13)
TIME: 15.30

ABSTRACT:
In this talk recent works performed at the University of Verona on robust shape analysis algorithms will be presented. After a short description of related research and applications, the talk will particularly focus on the Multiscale Area Projection Transform, recently proposed as a powerful tool to characterize robustly 3D shapes and that is particularly suitable for tubular/spherical part characterization and global shape description robust against noise, holes and articulated deformations.

BIO:
Andrea Giachetti is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Verona. He received the Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Genova, Italy, in 1993. Since 1997 he has worked with CRS4 (Center for Advanced Studies, Research and Development, Sardinia), where he has been head of the Medical Image Processing of CRS4, and key staff of various EU funded projects. His research activity is mainly focused on computer vision, computer graphics, medical image processing and shape analysis. He is author of more than 70 publications in journals and conference proceedings.
