Speaker: Yvonne-Anne Pignolet, Dr., director of research at Dfinity

Abstract: The modern internet has become dependent on a handful of centralized cloud providers, creating challenges from platform risk to data monopolies. This talk explores an alternative: the blockchain-based Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) designed to extend the public internet into a decentralized SW platform. We will examine how ICP enables the execution of tamper-proof apps, running at web speed and securely serving content directly to users without traditional, centralized intermediaries. To bring these concepts to life, the talk includes a live, hands-on demo. Together we will write an app running on the Internet Computer. You'll leave with a practical understanding of how ICP facilitates a more open and truly autonomous digital world.

Biography: Yvonne-Anne’s research is centered around distributed systems, ranging from the design and analysis of algorithms for reliable and efficient distributed systems despite failures and malicious behavior to complex network analysis.
After 10 years of working in industrial research labs at IBM and ABB, Yvonne-Anne joined DFINITY, where she leads teams of researchers and engineers building and improving the Internet Computer.
