Postdoctoral Position in Algorithms, Computational Geometry, Voronoi Diagrams

Staff - Faculty of Informatics

Start date: 16 March 2011

End date: 17 March 2011

The USI Università della Svizzera italiana, Faculty of Informatics, invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the area of Algorithms, Computational Geometry, Voronoi Diagrams, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation for a period of up to three years. The position is available as part of the Collaborative Research Project "Spatial Decompositions and Graphs (VORONOI)" under the ESF research program "Graphs in Geometry and Algorithms (EuroGIGA)".

The project will address a variety of open problems related to generalized Voronoi diagrams ranging from conceptual questions, abstract frameworks, the design and analysis of efficient algorithms, to application and implementation issues. Research will be conducted under the supervision of Prof. Evanthia Papadopoulou. The postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to collaborate with the members of the Collaborative Research Project, which includes some leading European institutions in the area of Voronoi diagrams and geometric subdivisions, located in Austria, Belgium, Germany, Poland, and Spain.

Candidates should have a PhD degree in computer science or a closely related field, and have an expertise in computational geometry or in the general area of design and analysis of combinatorial algorithms and their applications. Experience with engineering of geometric algorithms is a plus. For full consideration, please send in your application by April 20, 2011. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The exact starting date is negotiable.

To apply, please send the following to Prof. Evanthia Papadopoulou ([email protected]):

1. a cv with a list of publications;
2. a brief research statement detailing past research experience as well as current research interests;
3. the coordinates (including e-mail addresses) of three references;
4. a link to the PhD thesis (if not yet available to a PhD thesis draft or the PhD proposal) as well as previous research publications.

Salary is competitive and follows the standard regulations of USI Università della Svizzera italiana. For more information, again, please contact Prof. Evanthia Papadopoulou ([email protected]).
