Dr Shamiek Mangipudi, a researcher at USI Faculty of Informatics, has been awarded a prestigious BRIDGE Proof of Concept grant, an initiative of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and Innosuisse, to develop STRIDE (secure transparent resilient independent distributed execution), an innovative solution for secure scalable data analytics. This is the first project at USI to receive funding under this programme.
Today, more than 40% of data breaches involve information stored in cloud servers, with the average cost of a data breach hovering around $4.88 million per incident. In an era where data security and privacy are increasingly critical, STRIDE aims to provide an effective solution to ensure that sensitive data can be analyzed securely, protecting it from potential cyber threats.
The project’s goal is to develop an advanced prototype capable of automatically and efficiently managing and protecting data in a scalable way, without requiring users to possess cybersecurity expertise. The system will use an innovative technology that applies different levels of protection to data based on its sensitivity. This means that the most confidential information will receive higher security safeguards, ensuring maximum protection and efficiency.
STRIDE could have a significant impact on industries such as finance, healthcare, and public administration, where secure management of sensitive data such as personally identifiable information (PII) is crucial. With this technology, businesses and institutions will be able to leverage cloud computing for data analytics without the risk of data leaks or privacy breaches, thereby reducing costs associated with cybercrime.
The market for secure data analytics solutions is expected to grow to $5.3 billion by 2026, and STRIDE has the potential to become a key player in this field.
STRIDE is based on Prof. Patrick Eugster's and Dr Shamiek Mangipudi's Securified spinoff project which finished 3rd at the 2023 Boldbrain startup competition, and is supported by USI's Startup Centre.
