The Covid-19 pandemic did not stop the 2020 edition of the study week dedicated to "Fascinating informatics" held between 6 and 11 September 2020 at USI Faculty of Informatics. The event, in collaboration with the Universities of Basel and Bern, the FHNW Brugg-Windisch and the SBB, brought four young people from the cantons of Bern, Basel-Landschaft and Lucerne to spend six days developing IT projects and programming. Several projects were proposed to the participants ranging from Machine Learning programming, i.e. robots based on artificial intelligence, to facial recognition, among other things.

The initiative, promoted by the Science and Youth Foundation, aims to raise awareness among future generations to consider training in information technologies, which is increasingly pervasive and infrastructural in contemporary society. USI has been participating in the event every year since 2008.

The national finals of the event took place on Friday, 11 September at the Fachhochschule Nordestschweiz (FHNW) in Brugg-Windisch. All 21 students who took part in the study weeks, including five female-students from all over Switzerland, pitched the results of their work at the FHNW itself, the University of Basel, the University of Bern, PwC Schweiz and - indeed - Università della Svizzera italiana.
