Abstract:

We consider an algorithm for equality constrained optimization in function space with the special feature that only function values and norms in the domain space are evaluated. As an application in virtual medicine, we consider an implant planning problem. If time permits, we also discuss a recent problem from electro-myography, its mathematical model, and its numerical solution.

Biography:

Anton Schiela is Professor for Applied Mathematics at the University of Bayreuth since 2014. After studying Techno-Mathematik at TU München, he spent his PhD and PostDoc phase at the Zuse Institute Berlin within the DFG research center Matheon. In 2013 he moved to TU Hamburg-Harburg as an assistant professor and from there to Bayreuth. His field of research is optimization with partial differential equations and in particular algorithms that exploit the underlying functional analytic structure.
