Large Scale Project Courses

Staff - Faculty of Informatics

Start date: 10 May 2010

End date: 11 May 2010

The Faculty of Informatics is pleased to announce a seminar given by Professor Bernd Bruegge

DATE: Monday, May 10th 2010
PLACE: USI Università della Svizzera italiana, room A13 red building (Via G. Buffi 13)
TIME: 14:30

ABSTRACT:
In this talk I describe a teaching methodology that allows to build large scale applications with up to 60 undergraduate students within a single semester. The students are exposed to real problems formulated by real customers. They have to produce and deliver a solution within the duration of a single semester. Recently we have used this methodology to the development of iPhone Apps addressing software engineering as well as usability engineering issues.  Cases studies from past projects are presented to demonstrate the wide spectrum of this approach, in particular projects with the Munich airport and the Bavarian Symphony orchestra.

BIO:
Bernd Bruegge is a university professor for computer science at the Technische Universität München with a chair  for Applied Software Engineering. In addition, he is an adjunct associate  professor at the School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University.  He received his PhD in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University and is the recipient of the 1995 Herbert A Simon Award for Excellence in Teaching in Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University.
He is the co-author of the book „Object-Oriented Software Engineering: Using UML, Patterns and Java" available in 4 languages (English, Spanish, German, Chinese). His research interests include software engineering, in particular, agile methodologies, requirements engineering, CASE tools and understanding communication processes in large scale projects.
