The Faculty of Informatics is pleased to announce a seminar given by Piero Bonatti

DATE: Tuesday, October 20th, 2009
PLACE: USI Università della Svizzera italiana, room SI-013, Informatics building (Via G. Buffi 13)
TIME: 10.30

ABSTRACT:
The last 20 years of research on policy languages placed significant attention on expressive policy languages with mathematically clean semantics, and led to a clear separation of policy enforcement from business logic, as witnessed by XACML's architecture. This opened the way to advanced forms of policy management and enforcement that address several issues at the same time, such as policy authoring and validation, interoperable enforcement, trust negotiation, and user- friendly interfaces for policy explanation and diagnosis. This talk will illustrate several advanced forms of policy processing, their application to the aformentioned tasks, and their benefits along several dimensions, including usability and deployment effort.

BIO:
P. A. Bonatti is full professor at the University of Napoli Federico II. His main research interests revolve around two main subjects: Security/privacy/trust, and Knowledge representation and reasoning/ Problem solving. Within the former track, his main contributions concern: the inference problem in confidentiality, policy composition languages, trust negotiation, and usable security. Recently, he has coordinated the WG on Policies of the NoE REWERSE (6FP) and the design and deployment of Protune, which is currently one of the most advanced trust negotiation systems. He contributed with trust negotiation scenarios to the use cases of W3C RIF (Rule Interchange Format), and is currently a member of the W3C Policy Languages Interest Group (PLING) and of the NESSI technological platform. He participated into several EC projects including the IP FASTER (on access control for statistical data, FP5), the WG WASP and the NoE REWERSE; he is currently a management committee member of the COST Action Agreement Technologies.
