ABSTRACT:
Recent advances of digital media and storage technologies are enabling today large masses of users to produce and modify conspicuous volumes of media content. In addition, the availability of broadband wireline and wireless access is enabling easy consumption and sharing of high quality media anywhere, anytime. One of the most critical issues of this evolution is to have methods and techniques to easily and efficiently represent, search, 'navigate' and manipulate such amount of media content. Thus the relevance of content based indexing research. Multimedia content-based processing allows for 'raw' content to be structured and indexed. The techniques used are able to analyze the different content components (audio and speech, video, text) and to generate detailed metadata descriptions, enabling advanced content repurposing, search, editing, sharing and publication. In this talk we will discuss some of the ongoing research efforts in AT&T Labs - Research in the area of video and multimedia indexing. We will discuss algorithms and techniques for content segmentation, based text-to- speech conversion, part-of-speech tagging on extracted closed-caption text, combined with video shot boundary detection and query relevance ranking. Content personalization methods for triple play (TV, PC, mobile) delivery strategies will be also presented. The presentation will also describe a fully automated end-to-end system that we have developed, which includes content ingestion, media processing, content storage and retrieval subsystems, content  inter- and intra media adaptation and personalization.
