Since 1932 the purpose of the Belgian Francqui Foundation is to further the development of higher education and scientific research, thus encouraging interuniversity collaboration.
Every year, the Francqui Foundation bestows a few Francqui Chairs on the recommendation of the Belgian universities and invites the professors to hold educational courses of the highest levels in the host universities. These very prestigious chairs are awarded to world-class researchers who excel in their respective fields of discipline. Several Nobel Prize recipients are listed among the laureates.
