Three research articles from the Computer Systems Institute (SYS) affiliated with the Faculty of Informatics at USI have been accepted for the 16th ACM Symposium on Cloud Computing (SoCC), one of the world's most important events dedicated to cloud computing research. The 2025 edition will be held online from 19 to 21 November.
The Symposium on Cloud Computing (SoCC) is organised by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the world's largest computing society. The conference, co-sponsored by the SIGMOD and SIGOPS interest groups, is considered the leading forum for scholars and professionals in cloud computing, bringing together experts from academia and industry every year.
Unlike many other conferences, SoCC is held in a single-track format, selecting less than a quarter of the proposals received and accepting an average of fewer than fifty full research papers each year. The 2025 edition will be held entirely online, a choice consistent with the scientific community's growing focus on sustainability and reducing the energy impact of large data centres.
The three accepted papers, authored by USI researchers and collaborators, represent significant contributions to cutting-edge topics in the field of distributed systems and data security:
- The case for synchronous distributed protocols in public clouds – N. Milosevic (USI), R. Soule (Yale University), F. Pedone (USI).
- Confidential Analytics with Scylla – S. Mangipudi (USI), P. Chuprikov (Télécom Paris), G. Prendi (Adobe), P. Eugster (USI).
- Nano-Consensus: Ultra-fast, Quorum-less Coordination on the Wire – D. Rovelli (USI & SAP), C. Faerber (Altera), G. McKenzie (Altera), A. Pahlevan (SAP), S. Darabi (USI), P. Jahnke (Turba), P. Eugster (USI).
These results confirm USI's scientific excellence and international standing in the field of computer science, highlighting its recognised contribution to one of the world's most competitive conferences.
