Eclipse on 29 March: observations at IRSOL and Specola Solare
Istituto ricerche solari Aldo e Cele Daccò
12 March 2025
On 29 March, a partial solar eclipse will also be visible from Ticino. Unlike total eclipses, partial eclipses cannot be observed and appreciated with the naked eye. In this case in particular, the obscuration of the Sun will be less than 15%. It is nevertheless a fascinating phenomenon that deserves to be appreciated.
The IRSOL and the Specola Solare Ticinese invite all interested persons to come to the two institutes in Locarno Monti to observe the phenomenon together with the researchers who study the Sun and its phenomena in Ticino. Scientific instruments will be made available. At IRSOL (Via Patocchi 57), visitors can appreciate viewing the partially eclipsed Sun with special glasses, projected on the screen, and with the scientific telescope and instruments. The observed phenomena will be explained to the public by IRSOL scientists.
The observation will only take place if the weather is favourable, starting at 11.00 am. For up-to-date information on the course of the event, check the IRSOL and Specola websites.
Very important: the few parking spaces at the IRSOL and the Specola are reserved for staff and employees, and the public parking spaces outside are also limited, so the use of public transport is strongly recommended.
