A team of students attending the Master in Computational Science programme at Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) and students from Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), Germany has been selected to represent the two countries in the ISC Student Cluster Competition 2025, an international high-performance computing (HPC) competition for students.
A collaborative team of six students, named FAUSION—a clever play on the names of USI and FAU—has been selected as one of ten teams to compete at the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC25) in Hamburg in June 2025. This will be the first time USI students participate in this competition.
During the competition, participants will construct and assemble a small HPC cluster using hardware supplied by a sponsor. Their performance will be evaluated based on their cluster's results in various benchmarks, including HPL (a.k.a. LINPACK) and HPCG, as well as its effectiveness in machine learning inference and porous media simulation applications.
