TecDay is back in Ticino. A day dedicated to technology in which about 700 students of Liceo Cantonale Bellinzona will be involved in different modules of their choice and delve into technology and natural sciences. The event will be held on Tuesday, 15 March 2022, and several USI professors will also be involved.

During the day, various professionals will show students that mathematics has practical applications, that computer scientists do not just spend hours in front of a screen, and that knowledge in the sciences helps find solutions to everyday problems.

Representatives of Università della Svizzera italiana will propose several activities and workshops:

  • "The Art and Beauty of Programming" with Antonio Carzaniga, full professor at the USI Faculty of Informatics;
  • "What is Data Science" with Ernst Wit, Professor of Statistics and Data Science at USI Faculty of Informatics;
  • "3D Printing in 90 Minutes!" with Roberto Minelli, Academic Coordinator of the Software Institute at USI;
  • "Robot programming with Thymio" with Stefano Taillefert and Andrea Brites Marto Master's students at USI Faculty of Informatics.

The TecDays are an initiative of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences. They are organised at high schools: in German-speaking Switzerland since 2007, in French-speaking Switzerland since 2012 and since 2013 also in Ticino. More than 70,000 students and about 7,000 teachers have participated in a TecDay so far. More than 800 speakers from about 300 different institutions have offered their modules.
