For the first time Lugano will host the Teens in AI Hackathon, an event organized in collaboration with Università della Svizzera italiana, Dipartimento di Tecnologie Innovative (DTI) of SUPSI, IDSIA, Lugano Living Lab, and NNAISENSE.

The Teens in AI initiative is running the fifth Global Hackathon to celebrate International Women's Day. The aim is to bring young people closer to artificial intelligence and to encourage engagement with coding beginners and teenagers from disadvantaged backgrounds.  The challenge proposed by the hackathon will contribute to socially important topics such as Health, Education, and Gender Equality.

The three-day event will be held on East Campus Lugano from 18 March at 4:30 pm.

The Teens In AI initiative was launched at the AI for Good Global Summit at the United Nations in May 2018 to inspire the next generation of researchers, entrepreneurs and ethical AI leaders who will shape the world of tomorrow. It aims to give young people early exposure to artificial intelligence as social commodity. The programme creates a platform for young people aged 12-18 to explore AI, machine learning and data science through a series of hackathons, accelerators and bootcamps, together with expert guidance, talks, company tours, workshops and networking opportunities.

Teenagers from all over Ticino are invited to participate in this campaign whose mission is to promote gender diversity in the technology industry.

If you are specialising in tech, business and/or design thinking, you can join the event as a mentor with a few hours a day during the above dates to support teens as they identify and create solutions to UN Sustainable Development Goals.
