Chiara Giovani 2022 Award - Call for papers

The Associazione Amici di Piero Chiara promotes a competition to encourage young people's linguistic and literary aptitudes. The Prize, sponsored, among others, by the Republic and Canton of Ticino and by the Università della Svizzera italiana, is addressed to young people, Italian and from the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland, born between 1 January 2002 and 31 December 2007. The deadline for participation is 3 April 2022.

Participants are invited to submit an original and unpublished story (in Italian) on the topic: "Desiderio" (Desire).

Submission rules 

Each work must be a maximum of 6,000 typed characters, including spaces, preceded by Name and Surname, title, 3 lines of abstract, and number of characters of the text. Participation is free and online at www.premiochiara.it/inviochiaragiovani. Enter your data and upload the file of the story in .doc or .docx (word) format, with the following documents:

• photograph of the author
• copy of identity card
• minors are asked to fill out the participation form. 

Submissions must be received no later than Sunday, 3 April 2022.

A technical jury, chaired by Bianca Pitzorno writer, winner of Chiara Prize 2021, and made up Michele Airoldi teacher Liceo Cavalieri Verbania, Andrea Bianchetti teacher CPC Lugano and CPT Bellinzona, Cristina Boracchi headmaster of Liceo Crespi Busto Arsizio, Davide Circello teacher Liceo Lugano 1, Salvatore Consolo headmaster of Liceo Classico Cairoli Varese, Michela Maiocchi teacher Liceo Lugano 1, Michele Mancino deputy director Varesenews, will select the finalists that will be published in a volume edited by Amici di Piero Chiara.

The volume with the finalists will be submitted to the 150 members of the Jury of Readers of the Chiara Prize, who will vote for a story. The votes will determine a ranking. The first Prize will be 500 euros.

The finalists of the Chiara Giovani Prize 2022 will be officially announced at the beginning of the summer. They will be featured in the Festival del Racconto at a date and place to be announced.

The award ceremony for the Chiara Giovani Prize 2022 will take place during the Closing Event of the XXXIV Chiara Prize, Sunday, 16 October 2022, at 5 pm at the Sala Napoleonica, Ville Ponti, Varese.
