On Tuesday, 14 April 2026, the Faculty of Informatics at Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) welcomed three female and eleven male third-year high school students from Liceo di Mendrisio, enrolled in the Computer Science elective, as part of their In-depth Study Day.

During the day, the students were introduced to drone programming through a practical workshop based on a series of challenges: participants programmed the drones to carry out predefined missions, experiencing firsthand the logic and tools typical of applied software development.

The workshop was organised by Roberto Minelli, Academic Coordinator of the Software Institute, and led by Matteo Ghilardini and Sasha Toscano, both students on the Master's programme in Software and Data Engineering.

“The workshop forms part of USI's third mandate for engagement with the local community, to raise awareness and encourage young talent to study informatics," commented Mauro Prevostini, Programme Manager at the Faculty of Informatics.

The initiative confirms USI's commitment to strengthening dialogue with local schools and to offering concrete opportunities to engage with scientific and technological disciplines.
