Research
I am interested in the theory
and practice of dependable
distributed
systems and distributed data
management systems. My
contributions to theory include defining new abstractions to help
design reliable distributed systems, creating algorithms implementing
these abstractions and proving them correct, and establishing related
lower bounds. My contributions to systems research have focused on
designing, implementing and evaluating reliable data management systems
based on group communication. To a large extent, I have been interested
in the interplay between theory and practice.
My research is sponsored by
the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), the Commission for
Technology and Innovation (CTI), the Interchain Foundation, the Hasler Foundation,
the European Commission, Yahoo Switzerland, Microsoft Research,
Western Digital Research, and
Brazil's Science without Borders.
