The workshop will be held at the Monte Verità conference centre in Ascona, Switzerland. Monte Verità rises on the hills on the north shore of Lago Maggiore, and has always been a magnetic pole of convergence of ideas, trends, experiments, and historical figures. Immersed in the quiet and green of a park of more than 7 hectares, with an incomparable view of the lake and the nearby mountains, it offers visitors a unique experience. This venue is much loved by the international scientific community, thanks to its beautiful setting, the size of the campus, the professional and likewise friendly service and the high-quality cuisine served at the Monte Verità restaurant.

Getting to Locarno

In order to reach the Monte Verità conference centre, you must first get to Locarno, the closest railway station to Ascona. Visit the National Railway's website (SBB), insert the starting station and the arrival station (To: Locarno) to get information about all possible connections. The closest airports are Zurich and Milano Malpensa, but you can also consider flying to Geneva or Basel. Note the it is currently not possible to fly to Lugano.

From Locarno to Monte Verità

Once in Locarno, you can reach Monte Verità as follows:

1. Free shuttle bus (on your conference arrival day)

A free 9-seater shuttle bus to Monte Verità will be available at 14:00 / 14:40 / 15:20 / 16:00 / 16.40 / 17:20 on June 1, the arrival day. The minibus stops next to the end of platform 4 (close to where public transport is leaving). Look for the white bus with the Monte Verità logo.

2. Public bus

Bus #1 from Locarno railway station to Ascona (stop "Ascona Posta"; duration: 15–20 minutes; cost: 2.20 CHF) and then Bus #5 ("Buxi") from Ascona to Monte Verità (duration: 8 minutes; cost: 2.00 CHF). Do not forget to check the bus schedules in advance. If the schedule of Bus #5 is not convenient for your arrival time, you can also reach Monte Verità from "Ascona Posta" by walking approximately 25–30 minutes uphill along the road named "Via Collina".

3. Taxi

There are several taxis available at Locarno railway station. The cheapest rates are usually with EcoTaxi (duration: 15 minutes; cost: ~30 CHF). Note that you have to book the taxi in advance: phone +41 91 792 21 01 or 0800 321 321 (free number only from Swiss phones, or via Skype).

Visa Information

Please check the information of the Swiss Federal Office for Migration to see if you require a visa to enter Switzerland. Registered participants should contact the organizers in order to receive the invitation letter needed for the visa application.


The workshop is subsidized by the "Congressi Stefano Franscini" (CSF), the meeting platform of the ETH Zurich. The CSF supports between 20 and 25 international conferences each year, on any theme or discipline which is the subject of scientific research.
