Tapioca: Flexible Data Storage for Datacenter Applications

This paper presents Tapioca, a new database architecture for on-line transaction processing systems running in datacenters. Tapioca aims at scalable performance and configurable availability with more flexibility than found in traditional approaches. Tapioca's design favors both scale-up, by making use of multi-core architectures, and scale-out, by easily adding nodes to accommodate high throughput demands. We have implemented most of Tapioca's architecture and conducted a number of performance experiments, which we report in the paper.
