Present
Since April 2006 I have been a Ph.D. student at the Faculty of Informatics, University of Lugano, Switzerland. The research I do, guided by my advisor Michele Lanza, is mainly directed on software evolution, reengineering and reverse engineering, with a special focus on software visualization.
The goal of my Ph.D. is to create a 3D interactive environment based on a city metaphor, for the analysis of large evolving software systems. So far I have a number of publications on this approach. To validate my ideas by applying them on real systems, I implemented a tool called CodeCity, which is available for download.
Apart from pursuing this goal, I am involved in other academic activities, such as teaching, giving public presentations, co-reviewing scientific papers, or attending summer schools.
Past
I earned my Engineer-Diploma (2004) and Master's Diploma (2005) from the Faculty of Automatics and Computer Science at the "Politehnica" University of Timisoara, Romania. During the last years of undergraduate study, I was member of the LOOSE Research Group and Junior Researcher at the e-Austria research institute, both in Timisoara. The focus of my research back then was the detection of code clones, based on the concept of duplication chain. I developed a tool that supports this approach, which is called DuDe and is available for download.
I have also worked for over 2 years in the software industry. During my master study I worked at ETA Industrial Automatizations where I had my first contact with the real world. Later on, after finishing my masters, I switched to Sava Technologies, an agile software company, where I had my best industry experience so far.
