ASPDE: Automated Solver for Partial Differential Equations

Systems of Partial Differential Equations described the world we live in, however obtaining solutions to such systems can be quite daunting, even to the most seasoned modeler. In this talk I present a computational framework for automated finite element solutions of partial differential equations, based on FEniCS/DOLFIN. This computational framework not only includes the ability to solve a general PDE, using $H^1$ FEs, but also offers automated goal oriented mesh adaptivity. The novel goal oriented mesh adaptivity algorithm used by ASPDE is based on the error representation and doesn't require the user to perform a priori analysis of the problem to obtain an adaptive solution. Thus, ASPDE provides a simple and reliable method for solving partial differential equations based on the finite element

Erich L Foster received his PhD in Applied Mathematics from Virginia Tech, in 2013, where he studied Finite Elements for the Quasi-Geostrophic Equations of the Ocean. In addition to his studies in Applied Mathematics, Erich has a masters in Hydrogeology from the University of Nevada, Reno with a focus on Seawater Intrusion into Coastal Aquifers. Since receiving his PhD Erich has been a postdoctoral fellow at the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics in Bilbao, Spain, during his time at BCAM he has focused on developing software for the Automated Solutions to Partial Differential Equations using finite elements, including goal oriented mesh adaptivity. Erich's main interests include Scientific Computing, especially fluid dynamics and geophysical fluid dynamics. However, he loves any challenging problem which involves the use of Scientific Computing.
